‘Best Beer in Ireland’ Award as we win 8 medals at Alltech Irish Craft Beer Cup

Boyne Brewhouse have scooped 8 awards at the 6th Annual Dublin Craft Beer and Cider Cup 2018 including 2 Gold medals for its Saison and Imperial Stout and the ‘Best Beer in Ireland’ for its imperial stout also.

The Alltech Craft Brews and Food Fair hosted craft breweries, cideries and distilleries from Ireland and around the world at Dublins Convention Centre. Over 320 craft beers battled it out over 8 categories for recognition as the best Craft Beer in Ireland. The beers are rated, tested and analysed by an expert international panel of judges and critiqued based on appearance, aroma, flavour, body, style and quality.

Boyne Brewhouse led the way with ‘Best beer in Ireland’ and their barrel aged Imperial Stout was just pipped at the post by M63 Bulldog from Futohaz Sorfozde brewery in Hungary as overall winner of the Dublin Craft Beer Cup.

Aged in The Whistler sherry casks, which won ‘Best Irish Single Malt Whiskey under 12 years old’ at the World Whisky Awards 2017 we had high hopes for this special brew.

Needless to say we are absolutely delighted with the wins and our 2018 batch of Imperial Stout is bottle aging at the moment and will be released for sale in April. Bring it on!

Boyne Brewhouse Tasting Notes:
Imperial Stout, 10.8%. Complex | Dark | Rich

Deep black with a tan coloured head. The aroma offers some roast coffee and cocoa nib with a hint of both sherry and whiskey notes. A rich mellow taste on the palate with coffee and bitter chocolate from the dark roasted malt. The high alcohol content is balanced by the malt and intense sherry barrel flavours. The rich full body finishes with the slightest hint of dry Oloroso Sherry fruit. Aging for four months in Oloroso Sherry Casks which has held “The Whistler” range of Single Malt whiskeys for 2+ years has extracted complex vanilla and spice notes to this special edition Imperial Stout.

Saison, 5.5%. Peppery | Dry | Bitter

A classic traditional ‘Farmhouse Ale’ with a very pale colour. A spicy aroma with pepper and citrus. A light and effervescent mouthfeel with a unique spicy yeast character that dominates on the palate with a dry citrus finish.
